Faro is a full-size international airport with business aviation handling. Summer is busy but capacity is generally workable. It is the only practical arrival for the central Algarve.
Alternative airports
Lisbon is the alternative for the western Algarve and for onward connections, with a long road transfer. Seville is occasionally useful for the eastern Algarve. Portimão is small and limited.

Golf again, and the same arithmetic as Málaga: clubs are long, holds are shaped, and passenger count alone will mislead you. Declare the sets.

Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura are all reasonably close to Faro by road. The western Algarve is considerably further.
