Private Jet
Prices Europe & UK
What a private jet costs depends on the aircraft, the flying time and a list of operational costs most charter websites leave out. Here are the estimated prices by aircraft, the arithmetic, and what the final quotation confirms.
Private jet prices
by aircraft
The aircraft decides the rate. A turboprop and a heavy jet can differ by more than three times per hour, so no single hourly figure is right for every journey. Rates below are the representative hourly rates used across this site; the London–Geneva column shows the estimated one-way charter price on the same 407 nm sector.
| Aircraft | Representative rate | Seats | London–Geneva estimated price | Sensible when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TurbopropPilatus PC-12 / King Air 350 | £4,350 / hr | 8 | £7,500 | Short sectors, smaller runways and budget-conscious groups; slower, so it suits trips under about two hours. |
| Light or super-light jetPhenom 300, Citation CJ3+ / Learjet 75 | £7,250–£8,250 / hr | 7–8 | £9,000–£10,000 | Most UK-to-Europe trips for up to six or seven people with sensible baggage. |
| Midsize jetCitation XLS+ / Learjet 60 | £9,300 / hr | 8 | £11,500 | Stand-up cabin and more baggage volume for full European sectors. |
| Citation X (super-midsize)Cessna Citation X (CE-750) | £11,500 / hr | 9 | £13,000 | Speed on longer European sectors and transatlantic-edge work; more baggage and range. |
| Heavy or long-range jetChallenger 605, Falcon 900 / Global 6000, G650 | £15,000–£23,850 / hr | 12–14 | £18,500–£27,000 | Larger groups, long sectors and serious baggage; ultra-long-range for non-stop intercontinental. |

Check actual aircraft and total priceHow private jet charter cost is calculated
Estimated airborne time multiplied by the category's representative hourly rate gives the estimated one-way charter price. Citation X estimates have a £10,000 minimum per trip. Airborne time is modelled from the great-circle distance at each category's planning cruise speed, plus an allowance for climb and descent. Every figure is for the whole aircraft, not per seat.
The final quotation depends on where a suitable aircraft is positioned, the airports, fuel, handling, permits, passenger numbers, baggage and current availability. Quoting an all-in number without knowing those would be a guess dressed up as a price.
Your enquiry is handled directly by a commercial pilot. Flights are sourced from certificated operators, whose identity is provided with the quotation.
Four different numbers
From estimate
to confirmed price
Charter pricing gets confusing when these are presented as one figure. They are not the same thing.
Estimated one-way charter price
Airborne time × the category's representative rate, whole aircraft. Instant, shown on every route page and in the private jet cost calculator. Useful for comparing routes and aircraft; not a price you can book.
Positioning and airport costs
Flying the aircraft to your departure point and home again, plus landing, handling, parking, passenger charges, permits and de-icing. These vary trip by trip and airport by airport.
Indicative complete-trip range
Once we know your airports, dates, passengers and baggage, a pilot can give you a realistic range for the whole trip before a formal quote. We do not publish fixed complete-trip ranges, because they depend on aircraft position and availability on the day.
Final confirmed charter quotation
The operator's price for a named aircraft, with the operator identified and a validity period. This is the only number you book and fly on.

The variables
What actually
moves the price
Four things account for most of the gap between an estimate and a real quote. None of them are hidden — they are just rarely explained.
1. Positioning, and whether the aircraft can stay
This is the biggest one and the least understood. At popular airports in season — Ibiza, Mykonos, Olbia, Nice during an event, Geneva at winter weekends — there is often no overnight parking. The aircraft drops you, repositions empty to another airport, and returns for your pickup. Those empty legs are flying time and they appear in the price. A three-night trip to Ibiza in August can cost more than the two sectors you actually sit on.
Where the aircraft is starting from matters too. If a suitable aircraft is already positioned near your departure airport, positioning costs may be reduced. If it has to come from elsewhere to collect you, that flying is chargeable as well.
2. Fuel prices
Jet fuel is a large share of the direct operating cost of any flight, and the price moves — with crude, with refining margins, with exchange rates, and considerably between airports. The same sector can cost noticeably more or less month to month for no other reason. Our published hourly rate is reviewed against fuel costs and is indicative rather than fixed for all time; the rate confirmed at quotation is the one that applies to your trip.
3. Peak dates
Demand is not evenly spread. Summer Fridays and Sundays to the Balearics, ski-season weekends into Geneva, Grand Prix week in Nice, the fashion weeks in Milan. On those dates aircraft, slots and parking are all scarce at once, and prices reflect it. Moving a day either way often changes the number more than changing aircraft would.
4. Airport and handling charges
Landing, handling, parking and passenger charges vary enormously between airports and are confirmed in the final quotation. Two airports serving the same city can differ substantially, which is one of the reasons the departure airport is worth a conversation rather than an assumption.
Clarity
What the
estimate covers
Covered by the estimate
- The aircraft for your trip
- Two pilots
- Fuel for the sectors flown
- Standard aircraft insurance
- Routine flight planning and dispatch
Confirmed in the final quotation
- Aircraft positioning to and from your departure airport
- Airport, handling and landing fees
- Parking and overnight aircraft charges
- Passenger taxes and duties where applicable
- Catering and ground transport
- De-icing
- Crew overnight costs
- Permits and international handling
Most charter websites leave this list unwritten. These items depend on the date, the airports and where the aircraft is, so they are confirmed in the final quotation.

Common questions
Private jet
cost questions
How much does private jet hire cost in the UK?
It depends first on the aircraft. Representative hourly rates on this site run from £4,350 for a turboprop to £11,500 for a Citation X or similar super-midsize jet, and more for heavy and long-range jets. A London to Nice sector at 1 hr 25 min estimated airborne time is approximately £16,500 one way in a Citation X. Whole aircraft, subject to date, availability and positioning; the final quotation confirms all applicable charges.
Is the displayed price for the whole aircraft?
Yes. Every figure on this site is for the whole aircraft, not per seat. Where a per-passenger figure is shown it is simply the aircraft price divided by the number of passengers.
Why can a charter quotation change?
Because the inputs change: where the nearest suitable aircraft is positioned, fuel prices, airport and handling charges, permits, slots and parking, passenger and baggage numbers, and whether the aircraft can wait at your destination. A quotation is fixed once you accept it within its validity; an estimate is not.
How quickly can BenAviation confirm a short-notice flight?
Enquiries normally get a reply the same day, and when a suitable aircraft is already nearby a short-notice flight can sometimes be confirmed within hours. Nothing is confirmed until the operator's quotation is accepted, and availability is never guaranteed.
What is not included in the hourly rate?
Aircraft positioning, airport and handling charges, landing fees, parking, passenger taxes where applicable, catering, ground transport, de-icing, crew overnight costs and permits.
Why does a one-way sometimes cost close to a return?
Because the aircraft has to get home. If it is not carrying you on the return leg it repositions empty, and that flying time still has to be paid for by someone. On a return trip you are aboard for both legs, which is why returns often look better value per hour flown.
Why can a three-night trip cost more than a same-day return?
Because at busy airports in season there is often no overnight parking. The aircraft drops you, repositions empty to another airport and returns to collect you, and that repositioning is chargeable flying time. A same-day return uses the same two sectors with nobody paying for empty legs.
Do fuel prices affect private jet charter cost?
Yes, significantly. Jet fuel is a large share of the direct operating cost and its price moves with crude, refining margins, exchange rates and the airport itself. Our hourly rate is reviewed against fuel costs and is indicative rather than fixed; the rate confirmed at quotation applies to your trip.
Are private jet empty legs cheaper?
Usually significantly, because the aircraft is repositioning anyway. The trade-off is that the date and route are fixed and notice is short.
How many passengers can a Citation X carry?
Eight in the double-club cabin, plus a ninth belted seat on the lavatory if the party needs it — normally kept free for a cabin attendant.
