London to Geneva
Geneva is the default Alpine arrival for the French and Swiss resorts, and the busiest business aviation airport in the Alps through winter. The flying is short — the constraint is slots and parking, not distance.

Save this routeWhy this airport
Geneva serves Chamonix, Verbier, Megève, Courchevel and Val d'Isère by road, and it is the only Alpine airport in this list that handles large-cabin aircraft without restriction. That combination is why it fills first.
Slots, parking and operational restrictions
Geneva is slot coordinated year-round and demand at winter weekends far exceeds capacity. Parking is the binding constraint rather than runway or approach. If a parking slot cannot be secured the aircraft drops and repositions — often to Lyon, Basel or Zurich — and returns for the pickup. That repositioning is chargeable flying time.
Alternative airports
Chambéry and Sion sit closer to several French and Swiss resorts respectively and can be quicker overall despite the shorter runways. Annecy, Grenoble and Lyon are worth considering when Geneva weekend slots are gone. For the Tarentaise resorts specifically, Chambéry usually wins on total journey time.
Passengers and baggage
Ski and board bags are long rather than heavy, and hold shape decides what fits more than stated volume. Six passengers with six ski bags and boot bags will rule out a very light jet entirely and stretch a light jet. Declare the bag count before the aircraft is confirmed, not at check-in.
Onward transfer
Most resorts are between one and three hours by road from Geneva, and transfer times lengthen considerably on Saturday changeover days. Helicopter transfer from Geneva to the larger resorts is available through third parties and is worth pricing when the road time would exceed two hours.
Road journey times vary with traffic, weather and season. We do not publish transfer times as promises.
Aircraft compared
London to Geneva:
which aircraft?
Three sensible options for a ski trip, each with an estimated one-way charter price for the category. All figures are for the whole aircraft.
| Aircraft | Typical seats | Approx. flying time | Estimated one-way price | Complete trip | Sensible when |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TurbopropPilatus PC-12 / King Air 350 | 8 | 1 hr 40 min | £7,500 | Given per trip on request | Smaller groups watching the budget, or when a shorter runway such as Sion is the better arrival. Slower, so the cabin time is longer. |
| Light or super-light jetPhenom 300, CJ3+ / Learjet 75 | 7–8 | 1 hr 15 min | £9,000–£10,000 | Given per trip on request | Two to five skiers with modest kit. Check the ski-bag count carefully: hold shape, not weight, is the limit. |
| Citation X (super-midsize)Cessna Citation X (CE-750) | 9 | 1 hr 10 min | £13,000 | Given per trip on request | Six or more with full ski kit, or when speed matters. The largest hold and cabin of the three, at the highest hourly rate. |
Baggage allowance, including skis, is confirmed with your quotation: hold shape decides what fits. Complete-trip figures depend on aircraft position, slots and parking, so a pilot gives an indicative range for your dates before the formal quotation. Your enquiry is handled directly by a commercial pilot. Flights are sourced from certificated operators, whose identity is provided with the quotation. How private jet prices work.
Alpine airports compared
Geneva, Chambéry,
Sion or Innsbruck?
The closest airport is not always the best one. Runway, approvals, parking and the weather decide which aircraft can go where.
| Airport | Runway and aircraft | Slots and parking | Weather and diversions | Ski-bag capacity | Resort transfer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GenevaGVA / LSGG · 1 hr 10 min from London | Long runway; takes any aircraft, including the largest holds. | Slot coordinated. Winter weekend parking is the binding constraint; the aircraft may have to reposition, which is chargeable. | The most resilient of the four, and the usual alternate when the valley airports are weather-limited. | No aircraft-size limit, so the biggest ski-bag capacity is available. | 1–3 hours to most French and Swiss resorts; longer on Saturdays. Helicopter transfers available. |
| ChambéryCMF / LFLB · 1 hr 10 min from London | Shorter runway in a valley. Performance-limited with a full cabin or a contaminated runway; operator approval needed for some types. | Limited winter weekend capacity that books out early. | Terrain either side. Geneva and Lyon are the usual alternates. | Smaller aircraft fit best, which tightens the baggage arithmetic for six with full kit. | Typically well under 2 hours to Courchevel, Méribel, Val d'Isère and Tignes. |
| SionSIR / LSGS · 1 hr 10 min from London | Shorter runway in a valley with specific procedures. Not every operator or aircraft is approved. | Limited capacity. | Valley weather can close it in winter; Geneva is the fallback. | Smaller aircraft suit Sion, so declare ski and board bags early. | Verbier, Crans-Montana and Täsch (for Zermatt) by road; times vary sharply with snow. |
| InnsbruckINN / LOWI · 1 hr 25 min from London | Valley airport with special procedures; crews need specific airport qualification. | Slots and parking limited at winter weekends. | Valley wind and winter weather cause delays and diversions more often than at a flat-terrain airport; Salzburg and Munich are alternates. | Aircraft choice is already narrowed by qualification; full ski kit narrows it further. | The Tyrol resorts generally 1–2 hours by road in normal conditions. |
Flying times are Citation X estimates from London Farnborough. Transfer times are indicative and lengthen on Saturdays and in snow.
The pilot’s view
Geneva in January is not a difficult airport, it is a busy one. The flying is ninety minutes; the planning is everything else. Book the slot as seriously as the aircraft, and if your dates are movable, a Thursday or a Sunday morning will cost less and stress less than a Saturday. If the resort is in the Tarentaise, ask about Chambéry before you assume Geneva.
Common questions
How long is a private jet flight from London to Geneva?
About 1 hr 10 min estimated airborne time over a great-circle distance of 407 nm. Allowing for taxi at both ends, indicative block time is about 1 hr 30 min. Actual routing varies with airways, ATC, weather and operational requirements.
How much does a private jet from London to Geneva cost?
About £13,000 one way in a Citation X (super-midsize), about 1 hr 10 min airborne. On the same sector a turboprop is about £7,500 and a light or super-light jet £9,000–£10,000. These are estimated charter prices for the whole aircraft, subject to date, availability and positioning; the final quotation confirms aircraft, seating, baggage and all applicable charges.
Is the displayed price for the whole aircraft?
Yes. Every figure on this site is for the whole aircraft, not per seat. Where a per-passenger figure is shown it is simply the aircraft price divided by the number of passengers.
Which aircraft can carry skis?
It depends on the specific aircraft, how many passengers are travelling and the size of the bags: hold shape decides what fits, not weight. Tell us the number of ski, board and boot bags when you enquire. Baggage allowance is confirmed with your quotation.
Why can a charter quotation change?
Because the inputs change: where the nearest suitable aircraft is positioned, fuel prices, airport and handling charges, permits, slots and parking, passenger and baggage numbers, and whether the aircraft can wait at your destination. A quotation is fixed once you accept it within its validity; an indicative figure is not.
Which airport is best for an Alpine ski trip?
It depends on the resort. Chambéry is usually closest for the Tarentaise (Courchevel, Méribel, Val d'Isère, Tignes); Sion for Verbier, Crans-Montana and Zermatt; Innsbruck for the Tyrol; Geneva for Chamonix, Megève and most French and Swiss resorts. Geneva takes any aircraft and is the most resilient choice when weather, runway length or aircraft size rules out a valley airport.
How quickly can BenAviation confirm a short-notice flight?
Enquiries normally get a reply the same day, and when a suitable aircraft is already nearby a short-notice flight can sometimes be confirmed within hours. Nothing is confirmed until the operator's quotation is accepted, and availability is never guaranteed. On winter weekends into Geneva, slots and parking are usually the limiting factor, not the aircraft.
Who operates the flight?
Your enquiry is handled directly by a commercial pilot. Flights are sourced from certificated operators, whose identity is provided with the quotation.
